At the beginning of the wedding preparation, a lot of us started with dreamy and fancy ideas for our Save the Date video. But as we list down possible expenses, we start to realize that we do not have a money-making machine that can grant us all of our wishes.
So, most couples tend to adjust their Fairy tale Save the Date videos to avoid overspending.
But with proper planning, you can still make the best Save the Date video without breaking the bank.
Here’s how we did it:
#1 Think of a Concept
As a couple, you have to decide on how you want your video to look like.
Remember that this is your way of telling your love story to the public. It doesn’t have to be a re-enactment of how you guys fell in love. You can actually use symbols and stories you can relate to.
Here are some Save the Date video ideas:
- Fairy Tale
- Action movies
- Fantasy/Fiction movies
- Victorian era
- Great Gatsby
- Re-enact TV Series
Or if you want to share a preview of how the two of you actually met, you can do this:
#2 Walk Down the Memory Lane
Personally, we wanted everyone to know how the two of us actually met.
It’s a simple story, not something you’ve seen in the movies, definitely no grand entrances or whatsoever.
But it’s authentic. It’s how we started getting to know each other, and how our relationship blossomed.
So, if you find it hard to think of a concept, go back to the time you first met each other. Think of your first romantic date, first movie, first dinner, first travel, first out of town, or first fight.
Jeff and I did this, and we were both smiling after.
#3 Find an Event Videographer
After coming up with an idea on how you want your Save the Date to look like, you now have to talk to an event videographer for hire in Manila. This is applicable if your wedding will be in or near Manila.
Getting a videographer near you can save you some OTD fee (on the Day) and Transportation.
In our case, we got Jerc Studios to shoot our Save the Date Video because they have really amazing gears and they were very easy to talk to.
During our shoot, they used the following cameras and gadgets to bring out the best in us:
- Fujifilm XT3 – best autofocus system in the market today
- DJI Ronin S – for clear and smooth footage
- Go Pro Hero 7 – for the underwater shots and to capture the first person view experience
- Mavic Pro – to capture the Aerial view
We were not very knowledgeable on the technical side of photography and videography, so we had to hire Jerc Studios, they are the experts!
#4 Tell Your Story to the Videographer
To help your videographer come up with a compelling Save the Date Video, they have to feel it, too.
First, you have to remember the getting-to-know phase and recall as many details as possible.
Then, you have to show them how inlove you are with each other.
And lastly, you have to let them know of the idea you have in mind.
From there, your videographer can incorporate the technicalities, and help you achieve your dream video.
#5 Find a Venue
In finding a venue, you have to inquire for the pictorial and shooting rates, they usually have higher and different rates for wedding-related shoots.
Other venues also charge additional costs to let you fly a drone. So, you have to take note of all these fees.
For our video, we had several locations in Batangas. And my
They allowed us to take photos, videos, and fly a drone without extra charges.
#6 Find a Dress
I bought my red dress in Baguio City night market for only P100 (
For the clothes, you have to try them in advance to make sure they look really good on you.
It’s best if you can wear them with your partner so you can see if you complement each other.
#7 Rest Before the Shoot
We spent the whole day for the video shoot, including the travel time from Pasig to Batangas.
So it’s really a must to rest well a day before the shoot. It will help you get a youthful glow, and less breakouts!
We started shooting early, then afternoon for the next location, and we waited sunset in Lipa, Batangas. But we had lots of rest and down time in between.
#8 Use Makeup
If you know how to use makeup, and choose clothes that suit you, then you will save tons of money from a styling team.
During our DIY Prenup shoot, I did my own makeup. So, I had an experience of glamming up myself.
I used Detail Makeover’s Metallic eyeshadow palette to brighten up my eyes. Because it’s highly pigmented and lasts for about 6 to 8 hours.
#9 Have Fun!
No matter how expensive your videographer, venue, outfit, and makeup are, your Save the Date video won’t look good if you’re too stiff.
Lighten up and have some fun!
Tip: Practice smiling in front of a mirror before your shoot. It will help you understand your angle better.
Overall, we were happy with the outcome of our Save the Date Video with the hashtag #JeffCamsClosertoFornEver!
